How we polish
We grind the slab in stages with finer diamonds, apply a densifier to harden it and polish to matte, satin or gloss. A guard finish helps resist stains.
Why it suits damp slabs
Because there is no film on the surface, polished concrete is less sensitive to moisture coming up from below than a coating. For hillside homes with damp slabs, it can be a smart alternative.
Where it works
Lower-level rooms, offices, retail spaces and studios.
What it shows
Polishing reveals cracks, patches and color variation. Some people love that look; others prefer a coating.
How do I clean it?
A dust mop and neutral cleaner.
Can you polish a garage?
Yes, though oil stains may remain visible.
Lower-level rooms
Many homes here have a downstairs room built on the slab. Polishing that slab instead of laying carpet gives a durable surface that tolerates a bit of seasonal dampness better than a glued-down floor.
Workshops and garages
For a hobby woodshop or a garage used as a studio, a densified and lightly polished floor stops concrete dust from mixing with sawdust, and it does not mind a dropped chisel the way a glossy coating might.
